- TORONTO, June 10 /CNW/ - The du Maurier Arts Council announced today that 59 Ontario arts groups are among the recipients of grants for projects they will be presenting to the public in 2002 and 2003. The du Maurier Arts Council, one of Canada's foremost private sources of arts funding, announced the distribution of this year's funds after convening recently to assess the grant applications submitted by arts groups from across the country. This year's recipients will share in the $2 million that the Council is distributing to 271 arts organizations from coast to coast. In its 32-year history, the du Maurier Arts Council has awarded more that $58 million to over 621 arts groups in Canada. "The overwhelming diversity of this year's proposals are a true indicator of the outstanding contribution Ontario organizations are making to the arts community within the province and throughout Canada," remarked Neil Blanche, President of the Council. "In its 32-year history as a supporter of the arts, the du Maurier Arts Council has had the distinct pleasure of assisting a wide variety of Ontario arts organizations fulfill their creative vision and reach out to audiences in new and innovative ways. ... " The du Maurier Arts Council grants are distributed to arts groups in a wide variety of disciplines including dance, music, opera, symphony, theatre, film and visual arts. Among this year's 59 Ontario recipients are: Blyth Centre for the Arts, Kingston Symphony Association, Opera Lyra Ottawa, Port Stanley Festival Theatre, Northern Lights Festival Boréal, Kaeja d'Dance and Arraymusic, whose Post Scratch Orchestra will bring together composers from a variety of backgrounds. ...
